Bloomsday Festival

Bloomsday is a widely celebrated event in Ireland that is based on the life of Irish writer James Joyce and the events of his famous novel Ulysses. The first Bloomsday was celebrated in 1954 by Irish authors Patrick Kavanagh and Flann O’Brien. The Ulysses was set on the 16th June 1904 and it is observed and relived on this date in Dublin and elsewhere each year. This year the Bloomsday Festival takes place from Saturday the 11th of June until Thursday the 16th of June.

The festival includes common celebrations such as re-enacting scenes from the Ulysses, dressing up in Edwardian garb and eating the same meals as characters from the book. Events include talks, walking tours, on-street parties and bus tours. A more detailed description of events taking place around the city, can be viewed below.

The Iveagh Gardens

The Iveagh Gardens is a public park located between Clonmel Street and Upper Hatch Street, right behind the National Concert Hall in Dublin 2, Ireland. This National Historic Property is the perfect place to spend some time away from the hustle and bustle of Dublin city centre. Camden Court Hotel is less than a five minute walk to The Iveagh Gardens. The Iveagh Gardens boasts beautiful fountains, gardens and woodlands. Should you have an interest in literature and history and are looking for intriguing places to spend your time while visiting Dublin, the fourth UNESCO City of Literature, a visit to Marsh's Library will be a real treat.

At Camden Court Hotel, we believe that one of the best ways to get around Dublin’s fair city is by foot or bike. Especially on a mild day (when it’s not raining). Not only is a bike ride in Dublin city reasonably cheap and convenient, it’s great for sightseeing and exploring.

A large number of events will take place around Dublin to commemorate the centenary of the 1916 Rising. This will include talks, performances and events for all the family to enjoy.

We feel extremely fortunate to have this top notch event taking place just a stone’s throw away from us here at the Camden Court Hotel. The event will be held in one of our personal favourite venues, The Iveagh Gardens. If you’re passionate about food & drink, this is a must! This ultimate foodie festival takes place over 4 days, beginning on Thursday June 11th.

With summer supposedly being just around the corner, we’re feeling excited about the prospects of new and exciting events taking place around Dublin City. Just this weekend gone, we were fortunate enough to have Canalaphonic, a little gem of a free festival, taking place just down the road from us in Portobello/ Rathmines. Having gotten us in the events mood again, we bring you the next couple of happenings around Dublin City to start looking forward to.

3 Days of Dublin

April 07, 2015

Being the Irish capital, Dublin is an exciting, fast-moving, and simply wonderful city to escape to for a couple of days. The main problem people experience when they come to the big smoke is the lack of time, and the long “to-do” list that accompanies this. With that in mind, here is my personal suggested “3 Days of Dublin Itinerary”, which I feel has the perfect amounts of the ‘touristy stuff’, things of historical interest, and the must-have fun bits!

The Very Best of Dublin

February 10, 2015

This month we bring you 'The Very Best of Dublin' - what we feel are the city's best bits. If you're looking for a leisurely weekend activity idea or something to surprise your special someone with this Valentine's Day, then check out our favourite places below.

All are easily accessible from us here at the Camden Court Hotel, with most within easy walking distance. Check out our rates and availabilty HERE. We look forward to welcoming you!

We can't believe it's almost 2 weeks into 2015! With the kids (finally!) back to school, and our daily routines back to normal, it's time to look at the upcoming events taking place in Dublin this month to beat those January blues!

If you’re under the impression that January is one of the quieter months for events and happenings, then think again! We have some great ideas to keep you entertained in the upcoming month. It’s the month for change, so why not open your mind up to our list of fresh and fun Dublin happenings taking place this January! We're hugely excited about 2015 and are looking forward to another year filled with fun events to keep our Dublin visitors entertained. Read on for event-inspiration this month!

Time to get giddy in the park this summer! The long awaited Vodafone Comedy festival gets underway at the Iveagh Gardens from the 24th – 27th of June.

Our guests attending this event are in for a treat. The Iveagh gardens is the perfect location to chill out, meet with friends, and laugh your head off until your heart’s content. We have to say, The Iveagh gardens is a totally underestimated unique venue. It’s large enough to get the buzz of atmosphere but intimate enough to really get in with all the action. This hidden sanctuary is just located just off Harcourt Street and just a few steps from The Camden Court Hotel, you are centrally located to keep the night going well after the performances finish.

With the recent annoucement of the cancellation of all Garth Brooks concerts over the 25th July weekend, we can understand some of our guests can be dissaspointed with the outcome.

Fear not!!! Dublin will be going country crazy with a  'Dublin Goes Country'event for Garth Brooks fans!!

Details of a series of events billed as the 'Dublin Goes Country' weekend are available here.

We love the “summer” month activity in Dublin City and with all these lovely bank holiday weekends one after the other, let’s face it the extra day off and a lie in is about the only thing we’re looking forward to with this miserable weather! Visions of toasty BBQ’s are well and truly out the window.

All’s not lost as 2014 activities have certainly amplified since last year and ‘Bloom 2014’ is no exception. The usual venue of choice is the Phoenix Park, Dublin in which case the festivities kick off over the June bank holiday weekend, from Thursday 29th May until Monday 2nd June 2014.

Paddys Day 2014!

February 10, 2014

Where will you be celebrating this St. Patricks Day weekend? As the one national holiday that is celebrated in more countries around the world than any other, St. Patrick’s Day is the day when everyone wants to be Irish.

Dublin is set out to seize that opportunity, and completely transform the national and international perception of St. Patrick’s Day in Dublin. This country is bursting with the kind of creative energy, ideas and enthusiasm to make our national holiday an unforgettable experience for everyone across the world. This year is no exception with so much to look forward to from the the colourful Parade, street performances, festival treasure hunts, walking tours and much more.

We all know the weather in Dublin has been fantastic over the past months, the level of BBQ dining and corona clinking had that fuzzy warm summer feeling lingering in the air for longer than expected.

We’ve been quickly snapped into ‘autumn/winter’ mode that we’ve resorted to our dearest and comforting friends Mr. Couch and Mrs. Vin Rouge and slipped into an X-factor coma for the winter months.

Don’t get us wrong; we’re not complaining, we’ve had the best summer in almost 10 years, it was almost nostalgic with the increase of 90’s hits on the radio, melting tar on the potholed surfaces, and the joy of buying ‘tangle twisters’ to cool down like the good old days. To keep us from going into ‘post-summer depression’ we’ve been checking out what’s going on in Dublin City. So what do we have to look forward to?

Swimming has proven to do wonders for the body – but do you need to be the perfect swimmer? It’s been said that swimming is most effective for burning calories, boosting metabolism, and firming all muscles in your body all without the pressure on your joints. Seems like the wonder work-out to me!

Living in the bustling city is always hard to find a decent pool and swimming advice on how to get the best out of your time. The initial costs involved however, unlike some of these fad sports/activities doesn’t require much - a simple swim suit, hat and goggles and you’re away.

Magueritte O Malley, personal trainer & swimming instructor at TLC in Dublin 2says ‘An easy swim can make you burn around 500 calories an hour; it’s easy to achieve a higher level of course, based on how vigorous you are with your exercises. “Water is much denser than air, each kick, push, and pull is like a mini resistance workout for your entire body— especially your core, hips, arms, shoulders, and glutes”

What a summer it’s been so far with the likes of Rihanna, Rod Stewart, Robbies Williamsonly to name a few gracing our stages on the music scene. July is no exception, with the gorgeous ‘Justin Timberlake’, dreamy ‘Michael Bubléand rock and roll kings ‘The Killers’ headlining at ‘Pheonix Park’ and the ‘02’. It’s certainly an attractive mix of entertainment to look forward to in the next weeks.

At C Central we are always looking for ways to reward our customers. We’ve pretty much had the last of our summer weather so we need a good ole cheering up! We are delighted to offer our customers a ‘sizzling’ summer deal that will make your mouth water. Any group that reserve a table of 8 or more on Friday night between from 5-9pm will receive free finger food (wedges, sausages & chicken wings)!

Don’t forget ‘C Central Bar’ also offer FREE LIVE music from the hottest acts in town every Friday night from 7pm. What better way to start the weekend with great company, rocking music, great value cocktails and free finger food. It’s recession busting ‘dealicious!’

This summer get ready to welcome back the eagerly anticipated Taste of Dublin 2013. This fabulous summer food and drinks festival will take place just a few steps from the Camden Court Hotel at The Iveagh Gardensfrom Thursday 13th- Sunday 16th June. Top chefs, the hottest restaurants along with food and drink suppliers will grace the stands and deliver a feast for the senses that can’t be missed.

The one and only ‘Riverdance’ are performing in the Gaiety theatre from the 27th June till the 1st of September. It’s back in Ireland for the 10th consecutive summer season. ‘Riverdance’ propels traditional dance and music into the present day, capturing the imagination of audiences across all ages and cultures.

Any plans for the May bank holiday for any of you music lovers? Why not treat yourself to one of the best up and coming music events on the Dublin scene – The Camden Crawl. It can be the starting point of any music festival goers list for the summer.

The event prides itself on making live music affordable and accessible to the public by offering a whopping 150 live music and comedy acts in 15 different venues, you will be able to witness the best of the up and coming Irish acts.

Tickets are available for the weekend at €55.00 per person and day tickets at €35.00

Let’s hope the sun is shining next week for the Vodafone Comedy Festival 2012. The festival will feature a stellar line-up of 65 international and Irish comedians. The four day event takes place from July 26th to July 29thin the unique and stunning surroundings of the Iveagh Gardensin the heart of Dublin and just a couple of minutes away from the Camden Court Hotel. The festival is the largest and most successful open air comedy event of its type in Ireland with over twenty thousand people expected to attend this year.
